Session 1 (July 22nd – 26th)
Neighbourhood Explorers (Junior):
Get to know your neighbourhood and the talented makers of NDG! Each day of the week our Neighbourhood Explorers will visit a local NDG business, all within walking distance from the lab. Campers will then return to the lab to participate in a follow-up activity related to the morning’s field trip. For example; visit the local shoemaker and then make your own leather projects back at the lab!
Graphic Novel (Senior):
Campers will work through the entire process of making a graphic novel from start to finish! From storyboarding to illustration to book binding, learn the whole process and leave with your very own self published graphic novel!
Session 2 (July 29th – Aug 2nd)
The Power of Flight (Junior)
This Junior camp is aimed to get kids excited about flight through a variety of fun group activities and experiments. Campers will make their own kites, learn about space travel, and launch water rockets in the park!
Build a Lamp (Senior)
This week our Senior campers will design their own lamps from start to finish! Campers will learn about the technology available to them at MKRLAB and conduct some independent research alongside our skilled staff. After a healthy dose of inspiration, they will begin the design process and work towards their one-of-a-kind finished product.
Session 3 (Aug 12th – 16th)
Paper Extravaganza (Junior):
The rich history of paper is a great way to explore science, technology, and the arts. From learning about basic circuitry by making paper lanterns, to expressing your creative side through paper marbling, to making paper itself, this camp session will allow campers to discover the potential of paper in all its forms.
Skateboard Making (Senior)
Build a skateboard at MKRLAB! This 5 day project will take you through the process of building your own skateboard; from pressing and shaping the deck to designing and printing your own custom graphic, we’ll do it all ourselves. By the end of the week you’ll be rolling away on your very own handmade deck! Bring your own hardware. If you require assistance sourcing your hardware please get in touch.
Session 4 (Aug 19th – 23rd)
Colour and Light (Junior):
In this session of camp, kids will explore the science of colour and light. By experimenting with LED lights, learning about how colour relates to food and our appetites, making a camera obscura, and building a zoetrope, campers will be introduced to concepts like the physics of light, the chemistry of colours, and the persistence of vision, all while having fun and learning new skills.
Silk Screen T-Shirts: (Senior):
Learn how to turn your illustrations into beautiful prints during this intensive 5 day session of summer camp. Start with the basics and leave with a strong understanding of the screen printing process, as well as a collection of t-shirts; all designed and printed by you!
